Kate Berry started her formal dance training at the age of 14. Her background is very eclectic with a wide range of styles. She started in Latin ballroom, and then branched out into jazz, hip hop, contemporary modern, swing, Irish step, ballet, tap, theatrical dance, and even Mexican folkloric.
She started her Middle Eastern dance training late 2006, taking classes with the wonderful Erika Ochoa! Through the past year and a half she has taken workshops with Rachel Bryce, Faten Salima, Karim Tonsy, and Samara, Erika's mentor from NYC. She has performed in various venues including Navy Pier and many different theaters around Chicago and the Western suburbs as a part of PURE Chicago (original NY group founded by Kaeshi Chai) and Baladina Dance Company (Co-directed by Erika Ochoa and Karim Tonsy) She also performed at LaFayette Grill NYC on June 2008. With Erika's help she is making her way into the professional world of bellydance. Try and catch her on channel 11's "Check, Please!" in their review of Tizi Melloul !!
She is excited and delighted to start teaching Erika's style of bellydance to beginners, and believes that teaching not only lets students explore their creativity and self expression, it gives the teacher the amazing opportunity to become a better dancer through her students. |
